Craps -- Placing Don't Pass Bets

If you have played the game of craps, you probably know the various betting areas on the craps table. You probably have noticed the Don't Pass area that is positioned beside the famous pass line. Good craps players know that Don't Pass bets are actually great bets; however, many people are apprehensive about placing these kinds of bets. In reality, the casino has a small advantage over players with Don't Pass bets.

When using this wager, you need to be on the look out for the point because once this is established; you can then place your wager on the point number. Interestingly, the house advantage drops with this kind of wager. If you double your wager, the house edge drops even more dramatically. You're probably wondering, "If that is so, then why do people avoid placing Don't Pass Bets?"

First of all, you cannot expect casinos to promote these kinds of bets. It is absurd for them to promote a bet that decreases the house edge, so if you would play in a real casino, people would most likely point you to Pass Line Bets as good bets. It is rare for any casino dealer to suggest Don't Pass Bets.

Players are also wary of placing Don't Pass bets because they would be, in effect, placing a wager against the shooter. There are some who believes they'd be inviting bad luck if they play against the shooter. It's true, indeed, that when you place this kind of wager you are betting against the shooter. After the Come Out roll, the player would need to get a point number before he or she gets a seven in order to win. When you bet against the shooter, you are betting that a seven will come out before a point number. The probabilities of a player getting a seven are higher than the probabilities of him or her getting any other number. This is the reason why this kind of bet is a great bet. This is also the reason why it is greatly discourage by casinos.

You should know, however, when to place the wager. It is tough to win during Come Out rolls since the probability of the player getting a seven or eleven is quite high. If you are lucky and the dice do not roll in the shooter's favor, the probabilities shift to your advantage and you get the chance to win your wager.

Although it is not encouraged or promoted, this kind of bet remains an option in all casinos. Unless you have your own personal reasons for not placing these kinds of wagers, it is ridiculous not to take advantage of it. It offers better chances of winning.
